In early 2021, Patty Ratliff joined our team as Controller. She has over 35 years of business experience including 20+ years as a Controller in various industries, an Operation Manager of a local trust bank, a Financial Analyst, and a Scholarship & Grant Coordinator for a private foundation.
Patty’s first Controller position was at the age of 23 and hired into a travel agency. The books were unbalanced, and the computerized accounting system was sitting in a box. Her mission – balance the books and convert the balances into chart of accounts into the computer. It was a challenge she excelled at. She also found the experience to be a valuable example of changing things up via a process improvement and to create an efficiency that hadn’t existed. She has carried this reasoning with her throughout her career as she continually looked for ways her teams could be more efficient and strive for 100% accuracy through implementing new processes.
Patty has been instrumental in successful internal and external audits in previous roles in which she was the liaison working with several auditors including two IRS audits for other employers.
With her vast experience in Treasury Management, Patty has streamlined cash management into her various roles while stressing the importance around dual control, positive pay, reconciliation along with the typical A/R and A/P duties.
As Operation Manager of a trust bank, she created and implemented the Disaster Recovery procedures which were tested annually be switching normal activities over to the replicating backup system, working off-site, having physical checks and keys stored in an offsite location, etc.
Patty’s Pride Points include:
- - Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Walsh College with a BBA in Business Management while attending school full time and working full time at age 41.
- - Writing procedures for my employer that the State of Michigan auditors requested to use to train other trust banks during their audits.
- - Being the lead for the conversion to a Real-Time trust accounting system.
- - Group leader of the 1st Detroit Tiger Cruise on NCL – meeting/conversing with Al Kaline, Ernie Harwell, and other Detroit Tiger alum or current at the time.
Patty resides in Northville with her husband of 39 years. She loves being a grandma and spending time with her two granddaughters.
