Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct state-of-the-art research in the area of material model development for predicting structural performance of various types of composite materials, such as short, long, and continuous fiber reinforced materials.
  • Develop modeling methods for predicting the progressive failure of composites in static, dynamic and impact loadings
  • Extensively work with LS-DYNA, ABAQUS, NASTRAN commercial software programs for simulation of composites
  • Develop appropriate programming code for user subroutines in the framework of LS-DYNA to implement in-house developed material models
  • Write short program code in Python for data analysis
  • Technical report writing, communication and presentation of results
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of HYPERMESH, LS-DYNA, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, and NX (Intermediate level)
  • Strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) methods theory and practice
  • Specific experience in Computer Aided Engineering analysis – 2+ years
  • Intermediate experience with Python
  • Strong teamwork skills necessary for cooperation and collaboration with coworkers
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint – Intermediate level
  • Strong oral and written communication skills needed for presentation, report preparation
 
Education/Training/Certifications/Licenses
 
  • Master of Science/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical, and Civil Engineering with thesis topic on the simulation of composite materials
  • 2-4 years of experience required.
