Battery Mechanical Design Engineer #891265
Job Description:
The future product Design Release Engineer (“DRE”) for high voltage battery hardware and integration is responsible for the end to end management of the design and production release of one or more projects.  Projects include the high voltage vehicle battery and hardware integration for BEV vehicles released for NAFTA markets and has a support responsibility for supporting the Global Vehicle Safety & Compliance teams in all regions throughout APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and NAFTA (including Mexico and Canada).
 
Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To
  • Develop program HVBS concepts that satisfy vehicle level functional objectives
  • Coordinate ePT HVBS packaging activities with advanced concept engineering team
  • Execute programs through PDP that meet or exceed objectives for performance, cost, weight, investment, and quality
  • Develop and publish HVBS performance standards
  • Author and submit source packages on time to support ePT product plans
  • Develop system level DVP and coordinate component level DVP with Tier 1 supplier
  • Execute design for manufacturing process and coordinate assembly process with manufacturing engineering
  • Develop and execute energy storage system DFMEA for HVBS hardware
  • Provide program deliverables on time per major development milestones
  • Lead PDT meetings with Tier 1 suppliers
  • Coordinate HVBS change management (CCD, CN, IAA, PER)
  • Execute standardization plans and reuse of validated subcomponent
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering field from an ABET accredited/equivalent university
  • Minimum of 5 years in product engineering design, development and/or testing
  • Ability to review drawings and package studies in CAD
  • Demonstrated experience source packages, specifications, DFMEA and DVP&R through the complete product cycle (from sourcing approval to serial production)
  • Must have experience in one or more vehicle component or systems
  • Experience in problem solving
  • Strong technical research and writing skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Self-starter
  • Microsoft Office / Teams
  • Strong Presentation Skills
 
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent.
  • Experience in the full product life cycle
  • Reactive and/or DFSS black belt
  • Previous High Voltage battery design and release
 
Additional Must Haves:
  • Must appear confident and in charge of a situation even while on the phone. A soft-spoken person often will struggle
  • Must have demonstrated history of working on projects from a higher level and coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Someone who is focused on only one task is not appropriate for this role
  • Must be organized and good with time management
 
Years of Experience: Ideally 5+ years. Someone who has gone through a full product development cycle in 3 years can be acceptable if they meet other qualifications
Amount of Travel: Limited travel outside of CTC. Generally local visits to suppliers and test labs.
