Job Description:
  • The Business Systems Analyst (BSA)  works with some supervision on projects of moderate to high complexity and independently on projects of low to moderate complexity.
  • He/She serves as a liaison between the business community and Information Services (I.S.).
  • This position elicits and analyzes business needs for assigned projects, communicates with stakeholders, and participates in determining if the solution fits within the long-term strategic vision.
  • This position ensures that Business Systems Analysis (BSA) work products conform to quality and content standards.
 Applies Business Systems Analysis Processes
  • Participates in creating project work plans for assigned tasks to ensure milestones are met.
  • Participates in cross-functional tasks to assist with consistency and adherence with standards and best practices.
  • Supports subject matter experts in specific business systems analysis areas (e.g., business domains, processes, tools, techniques, etc.) to assist other BSAs while expanding his/her knowledge base.
  • Adheres to enterprise process standards and contributes to and recommends process improvements to ensure consistent deliverables.
Elicits and Analyzes Business Needs
  • Coordinates and facilitates work sessions to gather relevant information and to ensure understanding of the audience's knowledge.
  • Analyzes, comprehends, and applies the appropriate level of details, based on the stage of the project life cycle, to ensure mapped solutions satisfy business problems and opportunities.
  • Breaks down complex concepts into comprehensible concepts to ensure appropriate level of communication and understanding for the project stakeholders.
 Communicates Business Needs
  • Participates in conflict resolution to gain consensus among project stakeholders and to ensure the achievement of common goals.
  • Develops business and functional requirements and corresponding work products to ensure stakeholder understanding and to serve as a basis for subsequent work products in the project life cycle.
  • Delivers clear, relevant, and accurate written and verbal communications appropriate for the audience to ensure clarity and understanding.
  • Delivers verbal and written communications in a professional manner to ensure a credible, consistent, and clear message.
Validates Solutions for Business Needs 
  • Participates in discussions regarding solutions for cross-functional and highly complex projects to ensure the approach fits into the long-term business
  • Reviews other BSAs' work products to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to quality and work product standards.
  • Attends peer reviews of architecture, design, and quality assurance work products to identify conflicts and confirm consistent implementation of business and functional requirements.
  • Informs and assists project members in the understanding of business domains to broaden the knowledge base.
Assists in Identifying, Correcting & Reporting Defects in BSA Work Products
  • Participates in testing of BSA work products and processes to identify defects, meet standards, and ensure effectiveness.
  • Identifies and provides input to initial analysis to develop and implement appropriate actions.
  • Assists in documenting test results to support the efficient resolution of problems and to capture defect data.
  • Supports communication of test results with others (e.g., other business analysts, management, development teams, business users, etc.) to provide updates (e.g., estimated project end date, defects, functionality, etc.).
  • Enters data in the defect management tool to report variances from expected results.
  • Verifies defects are fixed to ensure expected results are met.
  • Participates in problem solving to support efficient resolution of issues and to follow-up on outstanding defects.
  • Collaborates with project team members to exchange information and to respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Assists in conducting root cause analysis of defects, identifies key and recurring problems, and provides solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develops summarized findings of problems to management to recommend proposed actions.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
 
Seeking individuals with a Bachelor's Degree & 2-4 years of knowledge and/or previous work experience in the following areas:
  • Identifies key data sources, synthesizes data, and draws conclusions based upon logic, rationality, and objectivity.
  • Maintains and applies specific knowledge of information systems elements (hardware, software, network) and their application to business functions/processes.
  • Applies knowledge of our internal business information systems.
  • Defines problems, breaks problems down into key issues, and identifies solutions to problems by testing hypotheses and identifying root causes.
  • Describes the services/products offered by all business units in our company; explains features of our services/products; describes general customer profiles targeted by the company.
  • Identifies, measures, and monitors customer or business needs in order to create solutions, make decisions and take appropriate actions.
  • Uses knowledge of current industry and financial trends, global business perspectives and organizational structures and functions to make business decisions.
  • Understands the requirements and critical elements of a business; creates a solution that integrates the appropriate disciplines and/or products to meet those requirements.
  • Plans and completes work with thoroughness, giving attention to specific information, and individual details, conditions, necessary record keeping, and elements of that work.
  • Identifies new and alternative approaches to performing business activities. The analysis of business processes, including recognition of the potential for automation of the processes, assessment of the costs and potential benefits of the new approaches considered and, where appropriate, management of change, and assistance with implementation.
  • Gathers and documents business problems, project objectives, technology needs, and relevant processes. Defines and documents functional and nonfunctional requirements to align application designs to business needs. Maintains traceability among requirements. Validates requirements to ensure completeness and understanding for developing applications solutions.
  • Applies knowledge of the tools, techniques, processes, and practices used in the development, maintenance, and operation of systems and applications. Evaluates internal and external best practices and industry standards to determine the tools, utilities, and processes most effective in and applicable to the Information Technology (IT) environment. Ensures tool usage and process consistency across the environment to ensure quality, efficiency, and effectiveness. Analyzes requirements and addresses challenges and issues affecting systems and applications processes. Determines process efficiencies and recommends and monitors improvements to systems and applications.
  • Applies techniques for monitoring and improving the quality to any aspect of a function or process. The achievement and maintenance of compliance to national and international standards, as appropriate.
  • Identifies, defines, combines, unifies and coordinates the various processes and project management activities throughout the entire project lifecycle and appropriate to the type of project.
  • Develops specific plans to accomplish project objectives. Establishes project goals, milestones, and deadlines and identifies specific resource needs in order to meet business objectives. Define activities, the sequencing of the activities, and the development and control of the schedule throughout the entire project lifecycle and appropriate to the type of project.
  • Performs project risk management.
  • Uses information gathering techniques such as asking open and closed-ended questions, probing for details, and interviewing to obtain information.
  • Applies knowledge of technology industry, trends, and best practices to our company.
